Health Comes from Within

One of the greatest minds of  the the 20th century said –
“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.” -Thomas Edison

The human body is an amazing self-healing organism – if we will just pay attention to what our body is trying to tell us. Give it some help. We will usually heal in spite of the toxic chemicals, foods, and pollution we are exposed to each day. Can diet cokes and fried pork skins really be healthy?
“We imagine that we can fix people, repair the body as we would repair a machine. Patient and doctor alike tend to forget the simple fact that the living body, unlike a machine, has the ability to heal itself.”Irving Cole, D.O.
You have a new stomach lining every three days. The actual cells that contact food are renewed every five minutes. You have a new liver every six weeks and 98 percent of the atoms in our bodies are renewed every year. We don’t have to think about making antibodies to defeat germs, hormones to regulate our various systems, or how to mend a broken bone, or how to close an open wound. The power that made the body still resides within the body.
This same power is ultimately the power that heals the body. Health doesn’t come from a pill, a chiropractic adjustment, a massage, surgery or from anything outside of you, including your doctor. These are tools or keys that can help unlock our natural healing abilities.
Optimal health resides within. We’re a physical, mental, chemical, and spiritual being. Optimal health is not merely the absence of disease. Instead, it is a byproduct of living a purpose filled-life filled with passion, joy, and happiness.
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.”  —The World Health Organization
“If we listen to our insides, we will also find that inner therapist who says, “Pay attention! I’m going to make you hurt a bit now so you will wake up.” …I sometimes call pain and suffering God’s reset button. It is sometimes the only thing that will make people change.”  — Bernie Siegel – Love, Medicine, and Miracles

What is your illness trying to tell you?

It is rare that we stop and slow down long enough to evaluate what is our purpose in this lifetime. Are we doing what God intended us to do?
Are we happy with our life, our work, our marriage, our spiritual growth? Life’s calamities make us pause and reevaluate these questions. Sometimes we still don’t slow down, and we experience more challenges until perhaps, one day, we listen to what it is God is trying to tell us.

Slow Down

“It is my belief that the timeless quality of silence is so important that we can call it one of the common denominators of successful healing.” – Harold Bloomfield, M.D. – Discovering Inner Energy and Overcoming Stress
Most of the time, the body heals itself. However, sometimes we need help. Prescription medications have been shown to be helpful for alleviating symptoms, but at what price? Vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, amino acids, and nutritional supplements are what the body uses and needs to function properly. Without these essential (must have or you die) nutrients, disease processes start to show up.
Science has already shown that stark deficiencies in some of these nutrients causes such life-threatening diseases as Beriberi, Scurvy, and Pellagra. Remember, we are as different on the inside as we are on the outside (I learned first-hand in anatomy lab). One person may need 10mg of vitamin B6 while another person with carpal tunnel syndrome (a symptom of vitamin B6 deficiency) may need 200mg. Where do our neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) come from? From various amino acids including 5HTP, GABA, Glutamine, and Phenylalanine. Where does thyroid hormone come from? From the amino acid Tyrosine. Every vitamin, mineral, and essential nutrient in the body is there for a purpose as God intended.

Want to Be Healthy?

I believe our job is to take the appropriate action steps to get and stay healthy. We know what we should and shouldn’t be doing to reap the benefits of good health, we just need to be proactive and do them.

Fibromyalgia is a Complicated Illness.

I believe the only way to beat fibromyalgia, reverse the symptoms, feel good again, is to get healthy and stay healthy. Drugs, at least long term aren’t the answer. They can be helpful and sometimes must be taken TO SUPPRESS the symptoms but nothing is as revitalizing and health enriching as finding and eliminating the CAUSE.
