Carol Overcomes Fibromyalgia

“The movement of the ceiling fan, the air moving in the room hurt … I don’t know if it was my skin or my muscles but it just hurt my arms. I couldn’t have a ceiling fan on. When storms came in, I would go to work but I was really sick. Most mornings, I woke up with a migraine. Almost every morning, I had fibromyalgia. It just was incredibly miserable. My sleep was very, very broken. What sleep I did have, I don’t think I was resting well because I would wake up and I’d be just exhausted. Those were some of the things I dealt with. Being a woman, you just do what you have to do. You just push and push and push and push. I had clients, they expected me to be there and I was there but I was pretty miserable.”

Cheryl: What was it like working with Dr. Murphree?

“It was by far one of the most pivotal, positive things that I ever did in my life. It has changed my life. It has changed me from looking at every day with pain, to looking at every day as a joy and a blessing. It’s totally changed my life for the positive. I get emotional about it …” – Carol S.

Carol Overcomes Her Fibromyalgia By Working With Dr. Rodger Murphree – Carol is interviewed by Dr. Murphree’s assistant, Cheryl. Read the transcript below.

Cheryl:  Hey Carol, this is Cheryl. Can you hear me?

Carol: I can.

Cheryl:  Hey, how are you doing today?

Carol: I’m good, how are you?

Cheryl: I’m good. Thank you so much for agreeing to share your story. What we were hoping was if you could please go ahead, share your story, how did you develop fibromyalgia, when did it start, how long were you dealing with it? Give us sort of an overview of what you were going through prior to beginning working with Dr Murphree.

Carol:  I first developed fibromyalgia, I guess I didn’t know it at the time but probably about 8-9 years ago. I went through a divorce, and before that had lived under a very stressful environment for 27 years. I think it just finally took its toll on my health. I searched out doctors and I found one in Dallas. For a while, what he seemed to do helped me and then there were some questions about medications, never checking my blood level, checking my thyroid level or any of my levels, other than the first time he took me as a patient. He just kept changing things I needed to take. After 2.5 or 3 years, I was like “Something is not right here. I just feel like I’m a dying tree. In spring, there were leaves but my root system was dying.” We weren’t getting to the core problem. My husband and I were driving back from Llano, Texas from seeing our daughter; my new husband. I was on Facebook and I saw Dr Murphree’s ad on Facebook. I clicked on it and listened to a little bit of his talk on problems with sleep. Then I went to the YouTube videos and I listened to … I don’t know how many he has, between 7-8 hour long lectures. I was like “This is who I feel led to go and work with” and I thought what can I do if it doesn’t work, what if I lost? That was the beginning of me finding Dr Murphree.

Cheryl: We’re so glad that you found us. One of the questions that I wanted to ask you was, can you please go over some of the symptoms that you had? I know one thing that you had mentioned when you first started working with Dr Murphree was you were really struggling with having achy muscles all the time. What were some of the other symptoms that you were just not having any luck with, before you started working with him?

Carol: I just remember Dr Murphree in my first visit. It was our initial visit and I just kept saying, “I’m just so tired, I’m just so tired.” I recorded most all of our conferences on the phone and I just remember saying that over and over. I would wake up and I would be in tears thinking “I don’t know if I can go to work and make it through the day.” That was a really huge struggle for me at that point.

Cheryl: How would you say your energy is doing now?

Carol:  When I started out, I was on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being the lowest, I probably was a 2. I feel like most days my energy level is between 8.5 and 10.

Cheryl: I’m so glad to hear that. That must be a lot better for you. Did you have any trouble with pain? That’s a pretty common fibromyalgia symptom.

Carol:  I did. The movement of the ceiling fan, the air moving in the room hurt my … I don’t know if it was my skin or my muscles but it just hurt my arms. I had clients, they expected me to be there and I was there but I was pretty miserable.

Cheryl:  How would you say after working with Dr Murphree in his Get Healthy program, how is your pain and sleep doing now? I know your energy is better but how about the pain and your sleep?

Carol: I had a script for Soma which was the only thing I used for pain. I never did narcotics, I just never did. I don’t know, that may be a narcotic … anyway, I would use one at night time to go to sleep. It would help with sleep, my muscles wouldn’t cramp up. During work, I would take half or one in the middle of the day, half or one after I got off work. As of today, I probably might take half of one when the storm rolls in. I just don’t take them anymore because my pain is pretty much under control. One of the things he told me about was the magnesium oil for my muscular pain. That really seems to help a lot for me. I feel like that is a positive thing, as far as going from medication to just some topical things that can help instead. I think it’s a big improvement.

Cheryl:   Absolutely. As Dr Murphree has probably said, nobody has a Soma deficiency so that’s great. How is your sleep doing? Is that still improved?

Carol:  It is improved. I have to use quite a bit of natural things to get down, but I am able to get down. It’s quite a bit but most all of it is natural. He and I have discussed other options on that too but yeah, my sleep is improved quite a bit.

Cheryl:  That’s fantastic. You had mentioned that you were able to cut back on the Soma. Were there any other prescriptions that you were able to cut back on?

Carol:  Yes. I was on 5-6 prescription medications, and I’m down to probably half of the Deseril at night and that’s the only script I have, other than that Soma. That’s it, that’s all I have. It’s natural.

Cheryl:  That’s a pretty huge reduction, good. I know you also had migraines, you were saying. Have those improved?

Carol: They have but I don’t know if it was the result of me getting healthier, or I also got a daith piercing in my ear. It’s a piercing that goes through an area of the ear. After I got that piecing, my migraines were more than cut in half. It’s very rarely that I have it anymore.

Cheryl: That’s fantastic. Dr Murphree and me as well here at the office, we’ve both been migraine sufferers in the past so we really understand how that can knock you down after a while. I’m glad you’ve been able to reduce those. The other thing I noticed was when you first started talking to him, I know you had been on steroids and you gained some weight with that. How was the diet program that he had you on? How did that work for you?

Carol:  Diet is still a struggle for me. That’s probably not what he wants me to say.

Cheryl:   No, be honest with us. That’s what we want.

Carol: The Restore Health program was very instrumental in me losing weight. I went from 178 down to 156-155, somewhere in there. It was hard for me. I lost really well for a while and then I got stuck, then I just finally got to the point where I said okay, I’m done. I’m just going to see if I can hang in here at that weight. I’ve been within 3-5 pounds. I do believe that the weight loss, I saw a decrease in … flaring up of my fibro. I’ve seen a decrease as my weight went down. In fact, I still want to at some point go back and work with him on my weight to get that down even further, to reduce more inflammation.

Cheryl: Of course, that is what that diet does is help reduce the inflammation in your body so that’s fantastic. Of course, you can call us anytime. We’d be happy to set that up for you. One thing that’s a little different with Dr Murphree is you worked with him primarily over the phone. Can you describe for our listeners a little bit what that process was like, and how that was different from working with other doctors?

Carol: The main thing is we would just set up appointments on the phone, he would call me and we would just go over. One thing we did was when I first signed on to work with him, he sent a kit and paperwork over the internet for me to go get blood work. Then I had to do some testing from a kit that he sent to my home; he mailed that in. I think it was within 2 weeks he had the results, and we started from there. None of the things that he decided on were prescriptions. They were all natural things. They were available to me either on the internet or through Dr Murphree, and it made it very simple for me to get those things within a couple of days. We kept in contact every 2 weeks. One thing he said to me that really stuck with me was, “I’m not just your doctor. I’m going to walk you through this and coach you through this process.” That made me really feel good that I wasn’t alone. Even though he was so far off, he was very accessible. I could contact him by email and he would shoot me an email right back. If I really had issues even on a weekend, he would shoot me one back. I was really impressed with how even though he was so far and it was by phone, it was so accessible to him. I had a really good experience with him.

Cheryl: We’re so glad to hear that because we really want to be accessible to all of our patients as much as possible. I’m glad that was such a positive experience for you. Carol, you have done such a wonderful job. We know you’ve worked really hard to improve your health. We’re so glad that you’re able to see some positive results from that. Is there anything else you would like to share with our audience? Some of them may be deciding if working with Dr Murphree would be the right choice for them or not. Is there any final words you’d want to leave them with?

Carol:  I would say pray about it and trust your spirit. It was by far one of the most pivotal, positive things that I ever did in my life. It has changed my life. It has changed me from looking at every day with pain, to looking at every day as a joy and a blessing. It’s totally changed my life for the positive. I get emotional about it … anyway, it’s been a very positive thing. Your health is worth it. your health is worth it, because your whole outlook will change in 6 months. It really will. That’s my 2 cents.

Cheryl:  Thank you so much Carol. You have been wonderful. It’s been great talking with you and we’re all so proud of you here at the office, and we’re so glad to hear how well you’re doing. Keep in touch with us and let us know if there’s anything else you need in the future, ok?

Carol: I will, I will always probably be in touch. Thank you so much.

Cheryl:  Bye-bye.
