Fibromyalgia-Covering Symptoms Only Leads To More Symptoms

With Fibromyalgia, Covering Symptoms Only Leads To More Symptoms

Doctors sooner or later have found through trial and error, that the drugs being promoted to treat fibromyalgia: Lyrica, Cymbalta, Savella, etc, offer little if any long-term improvement.

prescription pillsDoes your doctor know what he or she should about fibromyalgia? Are they recommending the wrong drugs, telling you to exercise, or dismissing your complaints as real? Discover what you really need to know to feel good again.

This often leads to frustration by the doctor and the patient. Mainstream doctors want to help, but base their treatment on using drugs to suppress symptoms. And with fibromyalgia there are just too many symptoms to suppress. Before you know it you may be on half a dozen to dozen drugs. But do they really help? Maybe short term, but they often cause more symptoms and more drugs long-term.

Doctors are finding out you can’t drug your way out of fibromyalgia.

Patients often report that their doctor only spends 5-10 minutes with them each visit. This leaves little time to find the underlying causes of fibromyalgia. Instead doctors are focused on reducing or suppressing the symptoms of fibromyalgia with drug therapy.

Sweeping the Symptoms Under The Fibromyalgia Rug

Low energy, headaches, migraines, low moods, constipation, hair loss, tingling in the hands and feet, and weight gain are simply dismissed as being due to fibromyalgia. They are also the symptoms of adrenal fatigue and low thyroid function.  Simpler to sweep these symptoms under the fibromyalgia rug, than to take the time to do the detective work, really listening, doing more advanced testing, research, thinking outside the box, learning about helpful nutritional therapies, diet, etc.

It doesn’t occur to the mainstream doctor that these symptoms may be in fact due to adrenal fatigue and or a low thyroid condition. Easier to write a prescription for each symptom. And after all they think, this is how we’ve always done it. No matter that for fibromyalgia this approach is a dead end, offering little if any long-term benefits.  Doctors don’t know, or choose not to accept, that often times, low thyroid or adrenal fatigue won’t show up on routine testing. More detective work is needed. Yes, simpler to cover up the symptoms than to take the time to find the causes.

Poor sleep, chronic pain, irritable bowel syndrome, low energy, and brain fog are all swept under the rug and explained away as being due to fibromyalgia. A huge opportunity to help the patient really feel good is lost once again. Covering up symptoms with drugs only leads to more drugs and more symptoms!

No Problem We Have A Drug For That

Woman with glass of water takes pills, isolated on white. Taking medicationIf the Lyrica or Savella are causing constipation, no problem, the doctor can recommend Linzess for the irritable bowel syndrome on your next visit. And if Linzess causes stomach pain, bloating and gas, as it often does, then no problem your doctor will recommend Bentyl on your following visit. Of course you can see where I’m going with this-one drug leads to more symptoms and more drugs to cover up the symptoms.

Oh, by the way, the side effects of Bentyl include:

Dizziness, drowsiness, lightheadedness, weakness, blurred vision, dry eyes, dry mouth, nausea, constipation, and abdominal bloating may occur.

Drugs don’t make you healthy, they can be helpful but they don’t make you healthy. The only way to reverse fibromyalgia is to get healthy!  Finding and fixing the underlying causes of fibromyalgia, adrenal fatigue, low thyroid, depleted stress coping chemicals, food allergies, yeast overgrowth, etc., which can all contribute to fibromyalgia symptoms, requires more than a 10 minute visit and the same old same old blood tests.

Traditional medicine and drug therapy is a dead end for fibro patients.
