Excerpt From Teleconference With Lianne From Arizona:
Dr. M:
Hi Lianne, I really appreciate you joining me tonight. Thanks so much. Can you tell me a little bit about where you were … tell me a little bit about your fibromyalgia and your past history before we started working together.
Lianne:
I had developed the fibromyalgia and I had been put on both Cymbalta and Lyrica. I was originally put on the Cymbalta and it worked. It helped with my pain for just a couple of months, but then the pain came right back so they put me on the Lyrica. It really didn’t make a difference but it started putting the weight on. I gained 50 pounds just being on the Lyrica for 5 months, and it didn’t really make a difference in my fibromyalgia. I just went off and assumed that there was nothing that I was going to be able to do about it. I work for a surgeon and we do long 12 hour day surgeries, and I felt like I was 90 years old at end of the surgery. I could barely move, barely walk and I would come home and just lay on the couch in pain … and I found you.
Dr. M:
Tell me about your pain, your pain was all over pain.
Lianne:
All over, yeah. It just felt that somebody had beaten me up with a bat all over my body. It hurt, just general hurt.
Dr. M:
What was amazing to me with what you’ve just shared is when we had our consult, you told me the amount of pain that you had. I’ve been doing this for almost 2 decades, I know the pain that you’re in and you shared that with me. You were still working these long days and that amazed me that you were able to work as hard as you did, so obviously you’re a pusher. You just go, go and go but at some point as I talk about in the book, you just gave out and you’ve never really been the same.
Lianne: Exactly.
Dr. M: Tell me what doctors had been telling you. Obviously you weren’t doing well, what were they telling you to do?
Lianne:
If I wasn’t going to do the medications, then they really didn’t have anything to suggest. They just told me to exercise, but then it hurt when I did the exercise.
Dr. M:
Right, they tell you just to live with it. Tell me about your energy, it was really low. You were just pushing to get through the day but your energy was really, really low. After coming home from work, you were pretty much done.
Lianne:
I would fall asleep on the couch and I would sleep all weekend. I really wouldn’t do anything, I wouldn’t go out.
Dr. M:
You didn’t have anything left like you just said. Tell me how that affected you. You found that you were doing less and less as far as going out and interacting with other people. Tell me a little about that.
Lianne:
I would have to actually force myself to go to family functions. If somebody wanted to do something, I would find an excuse not to go and just say I don’t feel good … I was also having lots of headaches. My migraines were getting pretty bad. I was like, I’m not going anywhere; anti-social.
Dr. M:
I think that happens to most people with fibromyalgia. You find that you keep withdrawing further and further from life, and you do that as a survival mechanism really because you find that if you do it, you crash and you pay the price for it.
Lianne:
The simplest things, the simplest chores and you would pay for it.
Dr. M:
Before you know it, you almost become a recluse. You get to where you don’t want to go out with friends. The thought of getting up, getting dressed and going to the grocery store, probably in your case more so on the weekend, that’s torture. You never know if it’s going to be a good day or it’s going to be a bad day. In your case the migraines, just like Jennifer … those are terrible. We started working together, what was your initial thought that here I am in Arizona, I’m going to contact this guy in Alabama. What were you thinking? You had to have a hurdle that you had to get over before you even made that phone call to set up a consult.
Lianne:
I bought your book because I saw you on Facebook. I went through your site, I bought your book and read your book and I’m like, this sounds like me. I truly liked that you were talking about doing things naturally with supplements, not medications. You were saying everything that I liked to hear. That just did it for me, I had to make the call.
Dr. M:
You said that you would come home and crash … really you didn’t sleep well at all when we first started. Sleep was a big challenge for you.
Lianne:
That was a big challenge for me. I would be in bed and I feel like I’m sleeping, but I know I’m no sleeping. You’re at just that awake-asleep and you never get into any kind of deep sleep.
Dr. M:
Before we started working together, you never really felt refreshed. That was a foreign word. We started working together and we got you on the right combination of supplements. You were able to fall asleep, stay asleep and you actually started feeling good.
Lianne:
Yeah, I’m actually dreaming again too.
Dr. M:
Yeah, I think that was a big deal. I’m putting emphasis on that because you shared that with me early on. I’ve got it noted here with exclamation marks, “I’m actually feeling pretty good.“ That’s when we started early on. The first thing you’ve got to do is you’ve got to get that deep sleep. We crossed that bridge and we found that you had all these symptoms of low thyroid, and no one had ever done anything with you on the thyroid. One of the things I did based on testing and just your history, I got you on some over the counter thyroid. Your metabolism went up and you started feeling better. Tell me about your energy now.
Lianne:
I shared with you 2 weeks ago when we got our normal call, I actually took the closet apart and cleaned it out and rearranged it. I didn’t have a problem afterwards. I was a little tired but it was normal tiredness. I was so excited about that. Then this weekend I was out doing year work and weeding, and didn’t have a problem. It was so amazing to me.
Dr. M:
In the normal world out there, people who don’t have fibromyalgia and have not been through what you went through and others were going through, they can redo their closet and do whatever and they’ll be fine. For someone with fibromyalgia, that’s a big feat. It’s very exciting. Tell me about your migraines.
Lianne:
I still have some occasional migraines but I don’t have them frequently, like I was. It’s more weather triggered right now than anything else. They’re doing good. I had a headache everyday and I don’t have that headache every day anymore.
Dr. M:
You’ve had quite a bit of pain. Tell me how is your pain now?
Lianne:
Pain’s good. As you know, I just went through having a total knee replacement 5 months ago, and I have had no problem recovering from that. It’s been great.
Dr. M:
That’s amazing because that takes it out of anybody. To be where you were and to go through something as traumatic as a knee replacement and you’ve done as well as you have, that’s amazing. A large part of that is you working as hard as you have. One of the things that you did was the anti-inflammatory diet. Tell me about that diet. You’ve lost some weight on that diet, right?
Lianne:
Yeah, I lost 70 pounds on the diet. I wanted to get that off before the knee surgery and it’s an easy diet to follow. Lots of good food and I’m still doing it now again, just to get the remainder of the weight off. It’s easy the follow, good natural foods … it gets rid of any cravings, sugars and all that stuff. I’m enjoying the diet.
Dr. M:
The link I think between the Lyrica and the low thyroid which had never been caught until we caught it in the testing … the Lyrica really put the weight on you. People can easily gain 10 pounds in a month on the Lyrica. We were able to get you off that and we got your metabolism to kick in; you did fantastic on the diet. You said the diet was easy, I don’t know if everybody would agree with that because it is work. I think you’re a real doer …
Lianne:
You just have to plan ahead.
Dr. M:
Absolutely. I always ask this, what has it been like working with me and my staff? You’re obviously all the way across country in Arizona. What’s it been like working with a doctor by phone, rather than doing in-office visits?
Lianne:
It’s been very different. You guys make it very convenient. All I have to do is just call up if I’m running out of something and you guys get it out in the mail right away, a couple of days later I got it. You guys have all been so sweet, you guys are wonderful. You go out of your way to make us feel good.
Dr. M:
I appreciate that. For those people who are listening tonight, what would you like to share with them about your experience with working with me and my staff? What would you like to share about the process that you’ve been through?
Lianne:
I would say do yourself a favor because it works. Whatever Dr Murphree does he makes sure that you’ve got the blood work done, you’ve got the right medications … he cares and it works. I wouldn’t be feeling so much better now if I hadn’t found Dr Murphree. You’re worth it.
Dr. M:
Thanks, I appreciate you sharing that with me and I’m so proud of you. Thanks for joining me tonight. I really appreciate you coming on the call and sharing your story. I look forward to talking to you soon.
Lianne:
I’ll talk to you in a week or so.
Dr. M:
Sounds great.

I would like to know what blood work is done. What is tested? I’ve had so much blood work done and nothing comes back abnormal.
Hi Pat most doctors are doing the basic tests. Unfortunately these tests don’t reveal anything. My goal is to do the detective work, special and thorough testing that will reveal the underlying causes of the fibromyalgia symptoms, thyroid antibodies, ferretin, DHEA, food allgety, leaky gut, gliadin sensitivity, reverse T3, etc. I go into great detail about this in my book http://www.getfibrobooks.com 205-879-2383
